What is organ transplantation?

Organ transplantation is the transfer of organs (or parts of them) and tissues from one location to another in the same body or to a different body.
Who needs an organ transplant?

Anyone — an adult or a child — may need a transplant. Organ failure can result from various diseases, and transplantation may be the only way to save a life.
How can I register my consent for posthumous donation?

You can apply at your local clinic or via the eGov.kz portal. After submitting your request and verifying your identity, your consent will be recorded in the national register. You’ll receive a confirmation, and you can change your decision at any time.
What type of consent system is in place in Kazakhstan?

Kazakhstan follows the system of presumed consent. Even if a person gives consent during their lifetime, organs can only be retrieved with the permission of their relatives.
What is the position of world religions on transplantation?

All major world religions support organ donation and transplantation if there is no commercial interest and the goal is to save lives. In particular, the Russian Orthodox Church, Islam, and Catholicism approve transplantation when intentions are humane and life-saving.
Is the sale of organs allowed in Kazakhstan?

No. The sale of organs is prohibited in Kazakhstan and is a criminal offense under the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Public Health.” Donation is allowed only on a voluntary and non-commercial basis.
