What is organ transplantation?

Organ transplantation is the transfer of organs (or parts of them), as well as tissues, from one location to another within the same body or to a different body.
Who needs organ transplantation?

Organ transplantation may be needed by anyone — adult or child. Loss of organ function can result from various diseases, and transplantation is the only way to save a life.
How to register your consent for posthumous organ donation?

You need to visit the clinic where you are registered or use the eGov.kz portal. After submitting the application and verifying your identity, your consent will be entered into the Register. You will receive a certificate, and you can change your decision at any time.
What is the legal presumption regarding organ donation in Kazakhstan?

Kazakhstan operates under the presumption of explicit consent. Even if a person has given consent during their lifetime, organs can only be removed with the permission of their relatives.
What is the stance of major world religions on organ transplantation?

All major world religions permit organ donation and transplantation provided there is no commercial gain and the purpose is to save lives. In particular, the Russian Orthodox Church, Islam, and Catholicism support transplantation when it is necessary and motivated by humanitarian intentions.
Is the sale of organs allowed in Kazakhstan?

No. The sale of organs is prohibited in Kazakhstan and punishable under the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Public Health.” Donation is only possible on a voluntary and unpaid basis.
